Shiatsu when literally translated means `finger pressure`. Its
techniques also involve using the thumbs, palms, knees, forearms,
elbows and feet. It is classed as a physical therapy that is currently
gaining popularity in the field of bodywork.
It uses the principles of Traditional Oriental Medicine as its
theoretical framework, (acupuncture without needles). This highly
developed sequence of techniques, stimulates the movement of Ki
(energy) around the body, where blocked areas of stagnant energy
are released, while depleted areas are replenished, so restoring
balance.
It is a gentle and un-intrusive treatment. Clients remain clothed as
shiatsu is better done through clothing as the practitioner can feel for deeper levels of imbalance in your body when the sensation of skin-to-skin contact is removed.
A full shiatsu treatment generally takes 1 hour and is performed on a futon mattress on the floor.
For your health days our practitioners can provide 12 x 30 minute sessions.
