The sessions will consist of the more
common floor based Pilates system.
Equipment is used in more advanced

Pilates (pronounce `pi - LA -tees`) offers
a unique way to develop your
suppleness
whilst
restoring muscular balance and
improving your
posture. It is a gentle but
focused exercise
programme, which utilises
a series of approximately
500 designed
movements.
The primary focus in Pilates is on the abdomen,
lower back, and buttocks,
which comprise
the core (`power centre`) of the body, and the rewards are plentiful:
- improved posture enabling you to walk, sit and stand taller
- improved muscular strength, tone and endurance
- improved suppleness and joint mobility
- injury prevention
- improved body awareness
- increased energy levels
- more effective body mechanics
- improved abdominal strength
Emphasis is on body awareness, controlling body alignment, and correct
breathing through concentration to promote efficient movement. The result is a strong flexible body,
with muscles that are lengthened and toned. Through the process of regular Pilates sessions the body`s
structure realigns and eventually the body is able to move with maximum efficiency and minimum effort.
With lower backache often an occupational health problem, Pilates is fast becoming known for its efficacy
in the work environment.
For your Health Days our Pilates instructor can provide either one-to-one or group taster classes.
